Autumn Term - Highlights

Wow, what a busy first half term we’ve had in the Hawks class!

It hasn’t been possible to capture all of the exciting activities that we have experienced so far this term, however we hope you enjoy looking though some of the highlights that we have managed to catch on camera. The Hawks class are always keen to learn, we love working hard and having fun.

We have been working so hard with our phonics and writing. We really enjoy learning our new sounds in lots of different ways. Hawks enjoy phonics stories and songs, they love colouring their letters and practicing handwriting using pencil grips. We also enjoy using our ‘clever fingers’ to make letters in sand, flour and play dough. Storytime is always a favourite time of the day, the children are keen to listen and enjoy the magic of books.

In maths we have worked hard to learn our numbers from 0-10. We have even started adding and subtracting! The children enjoy writing their numbers down and working in their colourful work books. Hawks have started to use numicon and enjoy lots of practical maths games and activities.

The Hawks are a creative class, they love their topic lessons especially when it involves cooking and crafts. Paddington Bear’s adventures proved to be a hit, the children looked after him really well. He provided us with a trip to the post office, a wonderful marmalade picnic, a French afternoon after his visit to Disneyland and many more wonderful activities.

The Hawks have worked really hard this term to develop their fine and gross motor skills, both on the indoor apparatus and with our outdoor games. Already the Hawks have improved their teamwork skills, enjoying many team building games and activities. Indoor games has allowed the children to develop their confidence, balance and coordination using the apparatus. Movement and Music has given the children a chance to express themselves and the Hawks love nothing more than a good song and dance.

On Wednesday afternoons the children enjoy topic work, where they have learned about many celebrations and festivals. They particularly enjoyed the fish tasting afternoon and scarecrow making this term. The children are also lucky enough to learn Spanish too. Hola Hawks!
